BongSoo Kim received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Korea University, Seoul, and earned his Ph.D. degree in Materials Chemistry from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, in 2008. After his postdoctoral research in organic solar cells from University of California, Berkeley, he has continued the development of new conjugated polymers and organic materials for high performance organic solar cells, organic transistors, organic photodiodes, and organic sensors.
Research Summary
Conjugated polymers and organic materials are highly interesting for future optoelectronic applications including organic solar cells, organic transistors, organic photodiodes, organic light emitting diodes, and molecular electronics. We design and synthesize new polymer/organic semiconducting materials to obtain desirable optical and electronic properties. More specifically, molecular energy level, bandgap, carrier mobility, crystallinity, and film morphology are controlled by developing new conjugated molecular backbone and introducing functional groups. Additionally, device engineering is being conducted to improve electrical performance.
