What do you think are the strengths of UNIST Chemistry?
In UNIST, there are many scholars having the excellent research performance in various research fields. To accomplish good research, valuable and frequent discussion can raise research idea. It is the same as basic process of brainstorming. When you face the hurdle in your research, the discussion can be helpful to figure out the solution. It is very open to collaboration with other departments at UNIST. Since there are many overseas scholars, you can learn broadened research perspective and creative attitude. Threre are good research facilities as well as human resources. Both can make it possible to design qualitative research, promote continued learning, and enhance research flexibility.
What was the most difficult part during your degree and how did you overcome?
Starting a degree means the beginning of a long marathon. The pressure to create new research and be productive is major stressful things. To adhere productive result can lose yourself. Enjoy the research and focus the attitude and habit of dealing with research is important in the period.
Don’t underestimate your research idea and stay focused on it. It is valuable things I have learned from my research advisors. A great result begins with a really small part. Keeping hold it in, you’ll someday be able to achieve and complete your degree.
What do you currently do after graduation?
After graduation, I am currently participating in the development of new process/product of system semiconductor (Soc) as ‘Process architects’ in Samsung Electronics’ foundry division. Differentiated from ordinary memory devices, logic semiconductors contain a variety of devices in a chip used as artificial intelligence (AI) chips. A semiconductor foundry, also called a fab and fabrication plant, refers to a factory wherein devices like integrated circuits (ICs). Chemistry and material science is important in this business. Major goal is that construction of successful process to fabricate chips exhibits superior performance without any defective loss in production. The experience of chemistry and learning logical thinking in research can make my current work more fruitful.
What is the most rewarding and happiest moment in your career?
In fact, I think it’s most rewarding when the process design kits that I built can be applied to actual products and implemented as products. The company R&D, different with solitary academic research, give other pleasures to spend more time to build constructive ideas with many experts. It is the happiest moment for me to be grown up without taking more time to agonize alone. Also, there are many opportunities to develop working abilities studying with working-level officials. A new challenge with young workers can give fresh motivation to develop myself continuously in dynamic organization.
Do you have any long-term goal or dream?
In a short-term goal, I want to concentrate my current work to develop technologies of advanced chip process architecture. There are many competitors like Taiwan and US companies in logic semiconductor industries. In that the crisis is an opportunity, I can accumulate knowledge related to logic semiconductors. In aspect of mass production and large-scale fabrication, I figure out how to operate these kinds of business. In a long-term goal, I want to realize my applicable/available technology and contributed value added start-up company
As a UNIST graduate, what advice would you give to students?
As I mentioned before, UNIST is one of the best institutes in equipment and capabilities. Also, their research is global level to achieve successful results. Looking and grab the greatest benefits you need. The way you want to go silently
